Meet alan chan

registered physiotherapist.
powerlifting coach.

I graduated with my Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto in 2020, following the completion of my Master of Science from the University of Ottawa. During my time at the University of Ottawa, I worked in the Navigation Laboratory investigating effects of attentional focus on athletic performance, as well as postural control/balance in the geriatric population. My work is published in peer reviewed journals including Gait and Posture, and the International Journal of Kinesiology and Sports Science.

Much of my interest in sport science, rehab and biomechanics stems from my experiences in competitive sport. I competed at the junior national level for Tae Kwon Do and subsequently found my passion for strength sports and powerlifting during my undergrad. Throughout my time in competitive sport, I had the privilege of coaching and writing personalized exercise programming for athletes of all levels while catering to their specific needs.

Given my background in academia and competitive sport, I am committed to using an evidence-based approach to assist my patients return to activities that are meaningful to them. I accomplish this by using a mixed approach of manual therapy, education and exercises. I specialize in helping athletes perform at their best, from marathon runners to weightlifters, as well as pre- and post-operative rehab. I strongly believe in developing a therapeutic alliance with all of my patients, while ensuring their treatment plan is tailored to their unique situation.

In my spare time, I enjoy setting new personal records in the powerlifts, cheering on my favourite esports athletes and hanging out with my Corgi, Monster!
